Dr. Schowengerdt was born in Kansas City, and raised in the Northland. He earned his medical degree at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Wisconsin in Madision, WI. He went on to become a Chief Resident at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, WI. He completed his fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, MO.
Dr. Schowengerdt is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. Schowengerdt cares for patients with a wide variety of gastrointestinal and chronic liver diseases. He enjoys Gastroenterology as it allows him to provide a continuity of care to patients in the hospital, clinic, and procedure-based settings as well as care for patients throughout their life.
His clinical interests include colon cancer screening and hereditary Gastrointestinal syndromes. Outside of work Dr. Schowengerdt spends time with his wife and two young boys. His interests including traveling to our National Parks, playing Legos with his kids, and movie nights at home with his wife.

Office made me feel comfortable and cared for from the minute i arrived. i was in for a colonoscopy, and had been really dreading it for months. Everything happened like clock work, including a thorough sit down with Dr. Sam to discuss results. Very professional and caring folks here, and I highly recommend.
Everyone was so kind and comforting as I was very anxious. Dr Sam explained everything to me and took time to answer any questions I had.

Welcoming front desk, professional and helpful with paperwork. Great nursing staff, anesthesiologist and doctor! My experience was great; in and out as they said.
Everything went very well and everyone was so nice. Only issue is there was an oversight on my prescriptions. They were not sent to the pharmacy. I’m going to call and see if I can get it straightened out. Great experience!!!

I have been under Dr. Sam's care for over a year. He is amazing. Takes his time to explain everything and goes above and beyond to make sure you get the care you need. If biologic therapy is something that's needed, the infusion team is awesome. I think their all angels in disguise. Top notch care by this entire team.

This is a fantastic place to have a procedure done. I have had many done in this place. The Doctor was fantastic and the nursing staff is some of the best I have ever seen. I work vascular surgery and I have never seen such teamwork like I have at this place. Great job everyone
For what I thought was going to be an awful intimidating experience - it was not. The entire staff starting with the kindest receptionist through Dr. Sam were all wonderful / professional and gracious. Don't put off like I did. Do it - could save your life. Great office and staff.
I admit I was nervous because of results I received from a test I received in the mail. But, your scheduler was calming and got me in within a week. I went by your office to pick up my preparation supplies and was greeted by a cheerful receptionist who had everything for me. I read all the instructions and the prep was so much easier than before. I arrived at the hospital and everyone from the receptionist to the nurses and members of anesthesia were so warm while explaining exactly what was going to happen. I got my results. Dr. Sam was great and told me what he found. I am at ease now. Thank you for the best service ever!

Unfortunately I see So many doctors right now. With my favorite Dr retiring, Dr Sam is one of the only Doctors I’ve seen recently that actually listens and gives genuine feedback! Dr Sam answers all my questions and I dont Feel like a number whenever I visit His office. Dr Sam explains everything on a level that I can truly receive the information being given. Drs don’t care anymore, BUT Dr Sam absolutely does. I’m confident I will Be ok in my poor health because Dr Sam is on my case!
